Today was a ride I have been looking forward to for a week. It was a ride out to St. Helena from Santa Rosa where we would pick up the route that the Amgen Tour will be following for Stage 1 and it was going to include the final KOM climb. However I got about a third of the way into the first hill and I heard that awful sound of a spoke snapping. The first half of this ride was unsupported so all I could do was to wave good bye and head back…
Recovery Ride into Sebastopol – 26.04 miles/02:01 time in saddle/12.9 mph pace
Oh how I hate to get sick. Battling a cold and cough, but it was too nice to stay inside. Did a short ride into Sebastopol just to get out. Did not push it or do any special climbing. I can only hope this nice weather stays around until I can recover.
Lambert Bridge Jimtown Chalk Hill – 64.95 miles/03:56 time in saddle/16.5 mph pace
Cold at the start but once we got out from under the redwood trees it was a great day. Lots of other roadies on the road today plus all of the normal cars. Headed up to Lake Sonoma over to Geyserville and back via 128, Alexander Valley and then Chalk Hill. A great ride but with Jo Ann still under the weather we did not do a hard pace. Total elevation climbed was 2,462 feet and average heart rate was 127 bpm.
Interval: Westside to Lambert Bridge –32.44 miles/01:52 time in saddle/17.4 mph pace
Got back from out of town yesterday and could not wait to get out. A very nice day in West Sonoma, low 60s and clear blue skies. Rode out to Lambert Bridge Winery and return working on my interval training. Not a bad pace, but there is much to improve. Total elevation climbed was 1,177 feet and my average heart rate was 137 bpm.
Interval: Westside to Lambert Bridge – 32.44 miles/01:56 time in saddle/16.8 mph pace
Cold and very windy, but I have to leave for a sales trip for the next five days so out we go. It was nice to be out, but around 47 when we started and it seemed the entire ride was into the wind. Could not keep a strong pace but nice any ways. Total elevation climbed was only 1300 feet and my average heart rate was 131 bpm.
